Gian Franco Kasper – Presedinte FIS: “Our FIS Race Directors and staff on the World Cup circuit, all of whom are highly experienced skiing professionals, do ongoing, daily work to ensure and further improve safety during the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup competitions. All our competitions are staged following precise procedures and safety guidelines, where the teams and their doctors are also directly involved. Safety of the athletes is and remains the FIS’s foremost concern.
Three seasons ago, FIS also set up the FIS Injury Surveillance System (FIS ISS) to systematically collect facts and figures on injuries that happen to our elite athletes across disciplines.
Unfortunately, the reasons for the latest accidents appear to be quite varied. We have now called a meeting with all the coaches, athletes and other involved parties to identify commonalities and to seek practical solutions to this problem that has made us very worried.”

Günter Hujara – Directorul de Concurs pentru cursele masculine: “The great number of injuries to the World Cup athletes at the beginning of the season concerns FIS very much. The entire FIS team is spending a lot of time discussing this. We have also asked other people to share their knowledge on this topic, together at a table, in order for us to be able to try to prevent further injuries. We are in contact with scientists we know to explore possible answers and to help make appropriate changes in our rules. The Coaches’ Working Group will also get together to discuss concrete suggestions shortly.
Unfortunately, the recent accidents all have different injury patterns, and no pattern resembles exactly another. This makes it difficult for us to find solutions, and there will be no single answer to fix everything.
We as FIS encourage everyone, all our partners and other related parties, to put the facts on the table and to discuss this concern constructively and from a practical perspective. FIS is anxious to implement useful changes. A meeting with the Athletes’ Working Group is already set for next week in Val Gardena/Gröden.”

Tehnica a evoluat mult.

Daca as cunoaste-o as fi in alta parte.

Jumps: It is important that takeoff points are made easy to spot, and that there is a smooth preparation of the snow right before the takeoff. Flat landings must be avoided in the future.

Speed control: Turns do not automatically reduce speed. The combination of course setting and course preparation determines the speed. Smooth course means that the racers carry higher speed through turns.

Gate panels/gates: It is important that panels are made to rip off easier in speed events

Suits: There is a need to look for new technology in race suits and personal safety equipment. The question whether there should be one manufacturer for all teams of race suits needs to be investigated.

Inspection: Possibility to divide the inspection in two groups should be evaluated so it’s easier to inspect the line. Also coaches, media etc. should not block the racers’ view. Line inspection is a major safety issue for athletes.

Skis, bindings, boots, plates: If there is going to be a change in the rules for equipment, it should only be done after serious investigation by all stakeholders. Making the skis wider was most likely a mistake according to the athletes present. It is also time to proactively promote further development of safe bindings that open on impact. Since the bindings have developed little in the last 20 years, additional safety enhancements should be possible.

Medical teams: Athletes would like to see one professional medical team following the entire World Cup.

Travel planning: Coming from different time zones/continents, there should be enough time before the next race.

The course setting and preparation of the race hill are factors that should be possible to change in the short term. However, when it comes to equipment changes and changes in the protocol around races, these should be understood as long-term changes.

Fara masuri.

    • Si zapada are partea ei de vina, asta e clar. Nu numai daca e tare e o problema, remember Lindsey Vonn…
